New River Valley

By the Blue Ridge Mountains in Southwest Virginia lies the New River Valley (NRV), a region of natural, scenic beauty. The namesake for this region, the New River flows through the area. The New River is one of the oldest rivers in the world and one of the only few that flows north. With views of mountains and wildlife as well as the abundance of business and education opportunities, the NRV is a great place to live, visit, learn, and work for many.

The NRV consists of the counties of Floyd, Giles, Montgomery, and Pulaski as well as the independent city of Radford. According to the United States Census, the population for the region includes over 180,000 people. The NRV is home of three institutions of higher education—Virginia Tech, Radford University, and New River Community College in addition to several public and private pre-kindergarten to 12th grade schools. There are also many restaurants and shops in the region that are favorites to local residents and visitors. The area also has parks, hiking trails, museums, libraries, entertainment, and events.

Whether you currently live in the area, just moved in, or are just visiting, the NRV has something for everyone. Go to the NRV and see what’s happening!
